AI Learning Webinar for Teachers
Bank Sumsel Babel, in collaboration with the South Sumatra Provincial Government, has successfully set a Guinness World Record through an international webinar titled "Indonesian Teachers Learn AI," held simultaneously on Saturday (September 20). The event, which saw the participation of thousands of educators—ranging from elementary, junior high, and high school/vocational school teachers to university lecturers from across South Sumatra—was officially recognized as the world’s largest simultaneous artificial intelligence (AI) learning session for educators. While opening the event, the Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, emphasized the vital role of teachers in the transformation of education within the digital era. "Education must adapt to the times. Through AI, teachers do not merely instruct; they also guide the 'Golden Generation of 2045' as they navigate an increasingly digital world," he stated.
The webinar featured a range of education experts, motivational speakers, and AI practitioners, including Dwi Sunu Pebruranto, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D., Dr. Benny Irawan, S.Pd., M.Ed., Johannes Taruna, James Gwee, and other prominent academics. Festero Mohamad Papeko, President Director of Bank Sumsel Babel, expressed pride in this achievement. "Bank Sumsel Babel is proud to be part of this historic milestone. We believe that the best investment is an investment in education, and today, South Sumatra has proven its standing on the global stage," Festero said in a press release received in Pangkalpinang on Tuesday (September 23).
Beyond securing a world record, the initiative is expected to have a tangible impact on improving the quality of learning in schools. The massive participation of teachers in South Sumatra serves as a testament to the education sector's readiness to leverage AI technology, ultimately fostering a young generation that is adaptive, intelligent, and globally competitive.
