CSR Donation of Cattle for Qurban (Sacrificial Offering)
A solemn atmosphere filled with a sense of togetherness characterized this precious occasion, which was attended by the Mayor of Palembang, Ratu Dewa; the Deputy Mayor, Prima Salam; officials from the Palembang City Government; and local community leaders. For this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration, the Great Mosque of Palembang (Masjid Agung Palembang) received sacrificial animals—14 cows and 16 goats—donated by various parties, including the South Sumatra Provincial Government, the Commander of the II/Sriwijaya Military Command, the South Sumatra Regional Police, the Mayor of Palembang, the Palembang City Police Chief, and the extended family of Bank Sumsel Babel. The Chairman of the Great Mosque Foundation, Kgs. Ir. H. Abdul Rozak, noted that the number of sacrificial cows has increased compared to last year, when 12 were received. Last year, more than 2,500 packages of sacrificial meat were distributed to those in need, and it is expected that this year’s total will be even higher.
Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa encouraged the public to view the act of *qurban* (sacrifice) as an opportunity to strengthen their social spirit and faith. He also invited the community to engage in *silaturahmi* (maintaining social bonds) by attending open houses held at his official residence and that of the Deputy Mayor, as part of efforts to foster closer ties with the residents. The sermon during the Eid al-Adha prayer was delivered by Ustadz Dr. H. Mukmin Zainal Arifin, LC, M.Pd.I., who emphasized the importance of maintaining piety in daily life—not just during specific times. He further highlighted the significance of *qurban* as a testament of faith and a moment for reflection, encouraging the faithful to minimize shortcomings by increasing good deeds. Following the prayer, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Palembang, along with government officials, inspected the sacrificial animals to be slaughtered on the grounds of the Great Mosque as part of the Eid al-Adha observances.
