The South Sumatra Provincial Government has once again organized a low-cost market operation as a concrete measure to control regional inflation while easing the financial burden on the public. The event, held at the Sako Perumnas Terminal in Palembang on Thursday (September 18, 2025), was officially opened by the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, H. Cik Ujang.

This low-cost market operation offers various essential commodities at subsidized prices, including SPHP (Government Rice Price Stabilization Program) rice, cooking oil, granulated sugar, and chicken eggs. Additionally, the public can purchase curly red chilies at a special discounted price. The subsidies for cooking oil and curly red chilies were supported by Bank Sumsel Babel through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program.

The prices of the commodities sold at this market are lower than prevailing market rates. SPHP rice is offered at IDR 57,000 for 5 kilograms, cooking oil at IDR 12,000 per liter, granulated sugar at IDR 13,500 per kilogram, and chicken eggs at IDR 22,000 per kilogram. A Discount of IDR 10,000 per kilogram is also applied to curly red chilies, along with other commodities, subject to supply availability.

Festero Mohamad Papeko, representing the President Director of Bank Sumsel Babel, emphasized that the bank’s support for this initiative demonstrates the role of a regional bank in maintaining economic stability for the community. "As a strategic partner to the provincial government, Bank Sumsel Babel is committed to going beyond its role as a financial intermediary; we aim to contribute directly to food security and the well-being of the people of South Sumatra. Through these CSR-funded subsidies, we want to ensure that the public has access to more affordable prices," he stated.

Following today’s event, the low-cost market operation will continue at several other locations, including the grounds of the UPTD (Technical Implementation Unit) office for River, Lake, Ferry, and Sea Terminal Management (September 23, 2025), and the grounds of the South Sumatra Provincial Food Security and Livestock Agency office (September 24, 2025). Through this series of activities, the South Sumatra Provincial Government and Bank Sumsel Babel are optimistic that they can assist the public in coping with the pressure of rising prices for basic necessities, while simultaneously strengthening synergy to maintain regional food security.
