Inauguration of independent Commissioner and Operational Director of Bank Sumsel Babel

PALEMBANG – The Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru officially confirmed two positions at the Regional Development Bank PT Bank Sumsel Babel (BSB), namely Independent Commissioner filled by Normandy Akil and Director of Operations by Arief Yulianto.

According to Deru, the inauguration is a form of confirmation of the moral burden, both for the Independent Commissioner and the Director of Operations.

"And this declaration is important for shareholders, especially for the public because this BSB belongs to all the people of South Sumatra and Babylon," he said during the inauguration speech at Griya Agung, Palembang, Tuesday (5/9/2023).

BSB as a regional bank has privileges and freedom in all its steps. Therefore, Deru hopes that these new ranks can bring BSB forward faster and more accountable.

"From the financial reports, the progress is very good. "This means that those who have been entrusted with a mandate must be more careful, careful but not become rigid," he stressed.

However, he added, there are things you need to be careful of. Moreover, technological changes are so fast like now.

"Every bank is required to be more adaptive and equipped with qualified human resources (HR)," he concluded.

The Main Director of Bank SumselBabel, Achmad Syamsudin explained that the appointment of the selected Independent Commissioners and Operations Directors had gone through a long selection process.

Starting from the criteria, looking at the track record and also going through a long process, even using a third party.

"It has been discussed at the GMS as well, so I think this is a good determination," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Operations Arief Yulianto said he would remain committed to the operational work program at BSB.

"Certainly ready to support the President Director's program to make BSB a bank with superior digital services," he said.

Independent Commissioner, Normandy Akil said he would stand according to the duties and roles of the commissioner.

According to him, the board of commissioners has a role in supervising and providing advice without participating in the decision making.

"Keep discussing, but the board of commissioners and board of directors is like a coin. He is one but cannot interfere with each other, “he explained.

Akil admits that as a financial service provider company, there are things that should be improved further in the future.

Such as the expansion of credit distribution, which must be careful and disciplined against the risks that may occur.

“Besides that, in order to compete, products must also be competitive. So it must be reviewed and supervised by the board of commissioners," he concluded.
